PETA offers reward to help South Carolina officials nab dog abuser
PETA officials have stepped in to help South Carolina law enforcement find the abusers of the dog found with duct tape around its mouth and face earlier this week.
On Monday, Darlington County deputies found the abandoned dog, now named Aurora, with tape wrapped around her mouth and head in the 900 block of Rogers Road in Darlington, South Carolina, according to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
According to a press release from PETA, veterinarians believe that Aurora was taped for up to a day and a half, and she is now being treated for malnourishment, whipworms, heartworms, and a foot infection—but is expected to make a full recovery.
Law-enforcement officials have not made any arrests in connection with this case, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.
"This dog had already endured being malnourished and infested with parasites, and we can only imagine the pain and terror that she felt when she was duct taped and left to die," says PETA Senior Director Colleen O'Brien. "PETA urges anyone with information about this case to come forward immediately, before the culprit hurts anyone else."
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the Darlington County Sheriff's Office at 843-398-4501.
