A Lexington County man who is alleged to have knowledge of last summer’s Charleston church massacre but failed to tell the FBI is scheduled to go on trial in federal court June 27.

The upcoming trial of Joey Meek, who is free on $25,000 bond, could last up to two weeks, according to federal court filings.

It will be tried before U.S. Judge Richard Gergel, who earlier this week told Meek’s lawyer, Debbie Barbier, and federal prosecutor Jay Richardson of the trial date.

No trial date in federal court has yet been set for Meek’s friend, Dylann Roof, who faces federal charges for the killings of nine African-Americans at the “Mother” Emanuel AME Church last June in downtown Charleston.

If convicted, Meek could face a maximum of eight years in prison.

Roof is scheduled to go on trial in state court in Charleston on July 11. A federal trial date has not yet been set.
