Portion of Huger Street closing through Monday for maintenance

Motorists traveling through downtown Columbia Friday through Monday can expect traffic delays from roads closed for sewer maintenance.

The city of Columbia needs to repair an 8-inch sewer main on Huger Street between Gervais and Blossom streets, according to a news release.

Starting at 9 a.m. Friday, both southbound lanes of Huger Street will be closed. Traffic will be detoured east to Gervais and Assembly streets, then south to Blossom before coming back to Huger.

The city expects to complete the project Monday.

Patrons can expect traffic delays while traveling to weekend events downtown Saturday, including Bark to the Park at Finlay Park, River Rocks Music Festival at Canalside, Hip-Hop Family Day on Main Street and that morning, USC’s Spring Game and letterman flag football game.

Also, USC’s baseball team is playing at home at 7 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
