A freeze warning is in effect for the Midlands until 9 a.m. Sunday. Temperatures are expected to dip unto the upper 20s and lower 30s overnight, especially north of Columbia.

Upstate fruit farmers are crossing their fingers, as the cold could affect the nascent peach crop, apple blooms and strawberries, which are ready for picking.

On Saturday, the Lexington County Sheriff’s office urged small boat and personal craft operators to stay off Lake Murray because of a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. The National Weather Service warned that the winds and rough chop on the lake create hazardous conditions for small and personal water craft.

“Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing,” the advisory stated.

Lake winds were forecast to be west to northwest at 15 to 25 knots with gusts 30 to 35 knots Saturday afternoon.
