Columbia police have arrested a man they say pointed a gun at a road rage victim.

Gregory Jones, 37, has been charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and discharging a firearm, according to a news release.

Meanwhile, investigators are seeking a man who allegedly struck another victim – not involved in the initial incident Saturday – intentionally with a vehicle.

The incident started about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, witnesses told officers, when two people riding in a vehicle along Deer Lake Drive encountered two cars blocking the road.

After an exchange of words, one driver who was blocking the road followed the two occupants of the first vehicle to the 500 block of Buck Haven Way, according to the news release.

Then the driver being sought struck another man who was standing in a driveway, according to the release. The man injured is recovering from a head cut and road rash at a hospital. Police say the driver’s reason for striking the man is unknown.

Officials labeled the incident a hit-and-run but declined to say if the driver being sought would be charged with that if caught.

Police say Jones was nearby, and as the driver’s car left the scene, pointed a gun at one of the initial passengers and fired into the air. No one was injured.

Officials declined to say why Jones got involved.

Jones was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where bond was set at $51,092 bond for the two charges, according to the release.
