One dead, two injured after shooting on North Beltline Boulevard
A shooting Monday night injured a woman, killed one of her sons, and injured another son at Beltine Village Apartments.
Officers responded to the complex on North Beltline Boulevard near Covenant Road about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Roosevelt McLaughlin Jr., 52, chased a woman and her two sons with a shotgun, according to the Columbia Police Department. The three hid in a room, but police said Mclaughlin shot and killed Shannon Weston, one of the woman’s sons. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Weston, 24, died from complications of a gunshot wound.
The other son was shot in the leg, and the woman suffered a wound to the hand, police reported.
McLaughlin was immediately arrested outside the apartment, police said. He was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
