Some Irmo officials oppose apartment project
Three Irmo leaders are opposing plans to open a 32-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors.
The project sought in the 1300 block of Lake Murray Boulevard is a bad fit on a busy road, Town Council members Kathy Condom, Mark Pouliot and Julius Waites said in a letter to state housing officials.
It would be on the site is a former tennis club adjoining Irmo Elementary School.
The complex is the third for low-income tenants on the north side of Lake Murray proposed by developers that is running into community resistance.
Residents in Ballentine and Chapin worry the apartments, financed by federal tax credits, would bring crime and graffiti while worsening road congestion and dropping property values.
