USC to host Islamophobia panel discussion
The University of South Carolina on Thursday will host a panel discussion on Islamophobia.
The discussion, titled “Islamophobia: A Response,” features four professors and a minister and is sponsored by the Carolina Peace Resource Center and USC’s Islamic World Studies Program. Islamophobia is the fear or dislike of Islam or Muslims.
“It’s a timely issue because there’s a lot of fear out there” after terrorist attacks in Paris and Brussels, said David Matos, president of the Carolina Peace Resource Center. “People need to learn the facts rather than make decisions based on fear.”
The panel starts at 7 p.m. Thursday in room 126 of USC’s Wardlaw College at 820 Main St. It is free and open to the public.
