Lexington 1 acquires site near Lake Murray for future school
Lexington 1 has acquired a tract near the south shore of Lake Murray on which a new school someday may rise, officials said Thursday.
School officials recently bought the 25-acre site on U.S. 378 about six miles west of the town of Lexington for $1.2 million, records show.
Building a new school there is not imminent, but it was too good a deal to pass up in an area where population growth is expected, Lexington 1 spokeswoman Mary Beth Hill said.
“We’re banking it,” she said. “It’s hard to find large parcels. But nothing will go there anytime soon.”
There is no plan to buy other sites for schools, Hill said.
