Columbia apartment fire displaces about 30 people
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) – Officials say about 30 people have been displaced after a fire burned an apartment complex in Columbia.
The fire was reported around 10:30 p.m. Sunday at Lakeshore Village Apartments on Garners Ferry Road in southeast Columbia.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins told local media the fire started on the bottom floor of one of the buildings. All 16 apartments in that building were affected by the fire, eight suffered heavy damage.
Fire officials said several people were rescued from one of the balconies.
No injuries have been reported.
Firefighters worked into Monday morning to extinguish the flames.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The American Red Cross is helping the victims displaced by the fire.
