Deputies chased down a suspected drug dealer Thursday after receiving tips from the community, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

William Watson, 19, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful carry of a pistol, according to a news release.

Officials said that while on nighttime patrol in the 3900 block of Candlelite Drive, not far from Bluff Road, deputies saw Watson throw a 9mm handgun on the ground behind a vehicle, then attempt to flee.

After a short foot chase, deputies caught Watson, and found he had a large quantity of marijuana packaged for sale and $466 in cash, officials said.

Watson was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
