The Lexington farmers market reopens Saturday with a new name and a new leader who plans to expand the menu.

It’s rechristened the Village Market with manager Chris Farley wanting to add features such as food trucks and craft sales to the traditional produce on sale.

The market remains at Town Square Park downtown. It will be open an extra hour, running 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays through September.

Farley hopes it will remain open year-round eventually.

“This is the first step of hopefully many activities,” he said.

Farley, a local real estate agent, is taking control of the market from town officials in a partnership aimed to growing interest in efforts to transform Main Street into a specialty shopping hub.
