One killed in hit-and-run on I-26 in Calhoun County

One person was killed in what police say was a hit-and-run on Interstate 26 eastbound in Calhoun County on Saturday.

An unknown driver in what investigators suspect was a pickup truck struck a Nissan SUV at about 5:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The Nissan went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The Nissan had three occupants, Beres said. The driver and one passenger were injured. Another passenger was killed. All three were wearing seat belts.

Responders flew the driver and injured passenger to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment.

Investigators say the vehicle that struck the SUV might have damage to the right front fender area.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the hit-and-run to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
