Cops riding to DC in honor of Forest Acres officer Greg Alia
A North Carolina officer is bicycling 500 miles over six days to honor fallen Forest Acres police officer Greg Alia.
Todd Leonard left Raleigh, N.C. on Thursday of last week, and will arrive in Washington, DC this coming Thursday. Upon arrival, he is set to meet Richard and Alexis Alia, Greg Alia’s parents, and present them with a flag and wristband he has carried on his journey.
Leonard has served on the Raleigh Police Department for 18 years, he said, and is a member of Law Enforcement United. He and his team are biking to raise money for the COPS Kids Camp – a program for children of officers killed in the line of duty – and for the Officer Down Memorial Page.
A separate batch of officers, bicycling with the Unity Tour, also will meet with Alia’s parents in the capital.
“We’re most appreciative of what they do,” Alexis Alia said. “Richard and I and our family consider it quite an honor.”
