Officials reopened a section of eastbound Interstate 20 in Kershaw County on Sunday after an 18-wheeler was lifted from the Wateree River.
The closure was necessary for two heavy-duty tow trucks to set up on the eastbound bridge and extract the trailer and rig from the river below, officials said.
Workers with the South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the eastbound bridge over the river at 5 a.m. Sunday. It was reopened shortly before 12:30 p.m.
The truck crashed over the bridge and fell into the river during a rainstorm on May 1. The driver was rescued.
