Columbia man killed in Wednesday rush hour I-77 crash identified

Richland County coroner Gary Watts identified the man killed Wednesday evening in a crash on northbound I-77 as 42-year-old Kareen Agee Motley of Carty Drive in Columbia.

The collision occurred at the height of rush hour traffic. Around 5:30 p.m. in a northbound lane of I-77 at Garners Ferry Road, the 2000 Nissan driven by Motley ran into the rear of a tractor trailer that was slowing down due to traffic, Judd Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Motley was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Watts said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this accident.
