11-vehicle crash on I-26 results in major traffic jam

Eleven vehicles were involved in a crash on Interstate 26 in Newberry County around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The crash occurred between mile markers 88 and 89 on I-26 westbound, according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department. One injury was reported from the incident, the sheriff’s department said.

Major traffic delays are to be expected on both directions of the highway in the area of the crash. The sheriff’s department is advising people to avoid the area when traveling from Columbia.

Traffic began moving again at about 3 p.m., television station WIS reported.
