Lottery winner ‘got real quiet’ after learning he won $150,000

A Newberry County man opened his newspaper one morning last week to learn he was six figures richer.

The Prosperity man looked up the Powerball results for the June 8 drawing, his numbers matched four out of the five white ball numbers and the red Powerball number printed on his ticket, according to news release from the S.C. Education Lottery.

“I got real quiet,” he said about finding out.

Because he spent the extra $1 for the Powerplay, he tripled his $50,000 prize to $150,000.

He took time off from work this week to cash his winning ticket. He said in a few more years, he will stop working and is setting aside the prize money for retirement savings, the release stated.

The odds of a similar match to this one is one in 913,129. The odds of a 3X multiplier being selected are 1 in 3.31.

Roberts Express Mart 3 in Newberry received a $1,500 commission for selling the winning ticket.

The estimated jackpot for Saturday’s Powerball drawing is $169 million.
