Pelion driver dies after truck hits a pole and overturns early Saturday

A 49-year-old Pelion man died after he was thrown from the truck he was driving after it ran off the road, struck a pole and overturned early Saturday morning.

Lexington County coroner Margaret Fisher said Thomas M. Goad died from trauma sustained in the accident shortly after arriving at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.

The single vehicle accident occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Pine Street at Josh Road in Pelion, Fisher said.

Goad, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from his 1999 Chevy truck when it hit a pole and overturned, Fisher said.

The accident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
