Man arrested after hitting Richland County deputy

A man faces an assault charge after hitting a Richland County deputy during an argument, officials said Monday

Lawrence Blanding, 47, was arrested for striking the unidentified deputy shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday after an exchange over a traffic ticket issued to Blanding's girlfriend, officials said.

The incident occurred in the 100 block of Cherry Stone Drive in the northeast part of the county, officials said.

The deputy received medical care for minor injuries, officials said.
