Woman seriously injured in Columbia house fire Tuesday night
One woman was seriously injured in a house fire in Columbia on Tuesday night.
Firefighters responded to 2900 block of Kennedy Street at about 8:45 p.m., according to Capt. Brick Lewis, spokesman for the Columbia Fire Department. It took about a half hour to knock the fire down, but firefighters stayed on scene cleaning up and investigating until about 11:30 p.m.
A woman who was inside the house when the fire started was seriously injured, Lewis said. She was taken to a local hospital. No one else was in the home at the time.
One other person lives at the home, Lewis said. The fire department contacted the Red Cross to help the two displaced residents.
An investigation by the city fire marshal determined the fire was electrical in nature, Lewis said.
The house suffered significant fire damage in one room, and smoke damage throughout the building.
