Columbia man dies of broken neck after swimming pool dive

A 26-year-old Columbia man died of a broken neck after diving into a swimming pool Friday.

Michael McWhite, of Patterson Road in Columbia, died in the emergency room at Palmetto Health Richland hospital just after noon Friday, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

McWhite dove into a swimming pool at the Harbour Landing Apartments off Garners Ferry Road just before noon Friday, according to Watts.
