Richland project to add to area’s affordable housing stock
Richland County officials will break ground Tuesday on a multimillion-dollar, multifamily complex on Shakespeare Road that will add to the area’s supply of affordable rental housing.
The plan is to build 24 rental units, according to federal grant documents.
The complex will be constructed at 6319 Shakespeare Road in Columbia, the former site of Columbia Mobile Home Park.
The development is being funded by Richland County government, the S.C. State Housing Finance Development Authority, Midland Housing Trust Fund, Wells Fargo and Community Assistance Provider, the owner and developer of the project.
The demolition of the former Columbia Mall Mobile Home Park and development of the site is part of the area’s Trenholm Acres/New Castle Neighborhoods Master Plan.
