Beer theft turned violent when suspect hit victim’s head, pulled out knife

Deputies are searching for a suspect who stole a case of beer from a convenience store and assaulted a victim and pulled out a knife during a confrontation, according to officials.

Deputies responded to a report of shoplifting and aggravated assault at a convenience store at 5413 Forest Drive around 1 a.m. Monday, according to Lt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The store is across Forest Drive from Walmart.

Wilson said an unknown suspect entered the business and stole a case of beer.

The employee confronted the suspect, and the suspect reportedly struck the victim in the head.

The suspect also pulled out a knife and threatened the employee.

The suspect then reportedly picked up the case of beer and fled the scene on foot.
