Northeast Richland shooting victim dies, suspect’s charge upped to murder

A man who was shot at a home in Northeast Richland County Thursday morning has died, and the man deputies believe did it will face murder charges, officials said.

Lt. Curtis Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department said William Jiles, 21, was arrested Thursday and was initially charged with attempted murder.

The victim died, and Wilson said the charge has been upgraded to murder.

The man, who officials have not identified yet, was shot at a home on the 100 block of Charmont Drive near Hard Scrabble Road.

The victim was reportedly shot in the upper body and was transported to a hospital.
