Gaston gunshot victim identified by coroner
A man who suffered a fatal gunshot wound on Nov. 25 was identified by the Lexington County coroner Sunday.
Johnny McCarthy, III, 32, was shot once in the abdomen according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, who performed an autopsy and determined the gunshot wound was the cause of death.
The Gaston resident was shot once at approximately 2 p.m. at a residence on Pineturn Lane in Gaston, said Fisher, adding the death is believed to have been caused by an accidental discharge from a weapon that was in the possession of McCarthy.
The case is still under investigation by the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.
