'Nurse' charged with assaulting teen faces more charges

A Lugoff man arrested earlier this month on assault charges against a 16-year-old patient faces additional charges of passing himself off as a nurse when he is not.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, working with Kershaw County authorities, arrested Kerston Kyle Turner, 28, on a charge of unlicensed practice as a nurse and licensed practical nurse.

Turner was being held Monday at the Lexington County jail while awaiting a bond hearing, according to a news release.

Turner came into contact with the patient and his mother at MedCare Urgent Care Center, 110 Medical Circle, in West Columbia, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said.

Turner, who had the word “nurse” tattooed on his forearm, is accused of performing unlawful services on a 16-year old that were outside the scope of his certification as a certified nursing assistant and constituted sexual assault.

The S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation certified Turner to work as a certified nursing assistant, the release said.
