Police hope two year anniversary of hit-and-run brings answers to nurse’s case, reward offered

Officials with the Columbia Police Department are hoping an upcoming anniversary of a hit-and-run incident in front of an area hospital will bring new information to the now two-year-old case.

In a statement released Monday, Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said investigators continue to seek the public’s help with information on the incident involving cardiac nurse Lindsay Bires.

On Sept. 16, 2012, Bires was standing on the sidewalk in front of Palmetto Health Richland where she worked when a white, compact car hit Bires. According to witnesses, the car ran off the side of the road at least twice before making impact with Bires. The driver did not stop to render aid.

After the incident, those same witnesses ran to help Bires and were able to get medical personnel quickly to the scene.

Bires was seriously injured in the incident and continues to recuperate, Holbrook said.

A $25,000 reward is still being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects, Holbrook said.
