Doctor gets probation for testosterone abuse

A Lexington doctor has been sentenced to 36 months probation and ordered to perform 80 hours of community service for illegally using testosterone for himself and providing it illegally to others.

Horace "Butch" Bledsoe, 58, had administered a partial dose of testosterone to a patient on Oct. 2, 2008 but did not dispose of the remaining testerone in the syringe, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Instead, Bledsoe kept some of it for his use and gave the rest to a medical assistant and other unidentified people. Bledsoe falsified drug administration records to hide the testosterone use from Lexington Medical Center.

The U.S. Attorneys Office said Bledsoe had taken testosterone in a similar way on approximately 20 occasions.

Bledsoe was fired from the Lexington Medical Center's Gilbert Family Practice in February after the crime was discovered.
