Driver charged with DUI in crash that broke moped driver’s bones
Police believe a driver was under the influence when he reportedly caused a crash that caused a moped drive serious injuries.
Columbia Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit charged Jimmy Gartman Jr. with driving under the influence.
Officers believe he was driving on Bluff Road near Interstate 77 around 9 p.m. Thursday when he collided with a moped.
The impact of the crash caused the moped to collide with another vehicle, according to police.
The driver of the moped sustained broke bones and was transported to an area hospital.
Gartman was also treated at an area hospital.
No one was seriously injured in the wreck.
Gartman was then transported to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and held under a $7,500 personal recognizance bond.
