6-year-old injured operating off-road vehicle in Kershaw County

A 6-year-old boy was injured operating an off-road vehicle in Kershaw County on Sunday.

The incident happened near 1 p.m. on private property off River Road, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The boy was the sole occupant of the 2012 Polaris two-seat off-road vehicle when he lost control and it overturned, said Southern.

The boy was transported to a Richland County hospital for treatment, according to Southern, adding he isn’t aware of the boy’s condition but hasn’t been informed that his injuries are considered life threatening.

The property where the incident occurred is not the boy’s residence, said Southern who added an investigation is ongoing.

Kershaw County EMS and Kershaw County Fire responded to the scene of the incident.
