Man charged with shoplifting said he found raw chicken in the woods, police say
A man told officers he found the raw chicken in his backpack in the woods when they questioned him about a shoplifting incident that happened at a Myrtle Beach Food Lion, authorities said.
Kenny Dwayne Narron, 52, was charged with shoplifting after police found the raw chicken on him and viewed store surveillance footage showing him take chicken from the store and leave without paying, according to a police report.
Officers were called about 7:30 p.m. Friday to Food Lion at 1009 U.S. 501 where a store manager reported the incident, police said.
Authorities got a description of the alleged shoplifter from the manager and found Narron walking down U.S. 501 and stopped him in an auto parts store parking lot. Police searched his backpack and found several packages of raw chicken, totaling to $83.90, according to the report.
Narron did not have a receipt for the chicken and told police he found it in the woods.
Police arrested Narron based on security footage and the fact that Narron did not have a receipt for the items in his bag, authorities said.
