Columbia man may have been shot to death in ‘retaliation’

Two men have been arrested and charged after a Columbia man was shot to death Friday afternoon.

Deputies arrested Freddie Lamont Mitchell Jr. at his residence on the 200 block of Hickory Ridge Drive Friday, according to Richland County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Curtis Wilson.

Mitchell, 20, was charged with murder in the death of Deangelo Prometheus Henderson.

Deputies believe he is a friend of the victim.

Henderson was shot around 4:20 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Leesburg and Patterson roads, officials reported.

He died from a gunshot wound to the torso while being treated at a local hospital.

Deputies also arrested Jordan Taylor at his residence on the 400 block of Levington Lane Saturday morning.

Taylor, 17, was also charged with murder.

Wilson reported the shooting was in retaliation for a previous dispute between Taylor’s brother and the victim.
