A 24-year-old Lexington woman was charged with homicide following the death of her 4-year-old daughter.

Cynthia Estrada-Lopez is believed to have “ restrained her daughter in the child’s bed, taped her mouth shut and abandoned her the evening of July 31,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release Friday night.

Paramedics found the child unresponsive when they were called to the woman’s home that night. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Estrada-Lopez was arrested on Friday and charged with homicide by child abuse, Koon said.

She was being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
