He was arrested for assault – and then kicked out the cop’s car window, deputies say

A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday in Richland County after deputies say he assaulted a woman he was giving a ride to.

Winfred Washington, of Irmo, is accused of beating a female victim in the upper body after a verbal fight escalated, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Washington was arrested in the 1300 block of Broad River Road around 7 p.m. Friday. After he was placed in a deputy’s vehicle, Washington then kicked out one of the car’s windows, damaging the door and shattering the window, deputies say.

Washington is charged with third-degree assault and battery as well as malicious injury to property.
