Three correctional officers assaulted at McCormick Correctional Institution

Three correctional officers at the McCormick Correctional Institution were transported to area hospitals Monday evening after they were assaulted by inmates, South Carolina Department of Corrections officials say.

Stephanie Givens, a department spokeswoman, said the officers received treatment for non life-threatening wounds after they were assaulted by inmates.

Givens said the facility remained secure throughout the incident.

SCDC investigators are investigating the incident and more information will be released as it becomes available, Givens said.
