Columbia police officer injured when patrol car hit by truck

A Columbia police officer was taken to the hospital Friday morning when a patrol car was struck by a truck.

WIS reports the officer was stopped with his lights on after another crash on Huger and Hampton streets when his patrol car was struck from behind.

The officer was standing in the doorway of the vehicle when it was hit, WLTX reports. The collison occurred about 10 a.m.

Columbia police say the officer is being evaluated at an area hospital, and S.C. Highway Patrol closed a portion of Huger Street as troopers investigate the collision.
