Driver in I-20 fatal crash facing felony DUI charges
A driver involved in a fatal crash in Lexington County on Saturday is facing felony charges.
Marshall Brandon McFarland, 35, is facing charges of felony DUI resulting in death, driving with a suspended license and transporting alcohol in a vehicle with a broken seal, according to jail records. He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center and is expected to go before a judge for a bond hearing at 10 a.m.
McFarland is accused of driving a car from which 21-year-old Wyatt Dakota Duval, of Lugoff, was thrown when it rolled over. Duval died at the scene from his injuries, said Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.
On Saturday, the men were headed east on Interstate 20 in a 2005 Acura driven by McFarland, when he got into the emergency lane to pass several vehicles, said Lance Corporal David Jones of S.C. Highway Patrol. McFarland lost control of the car near mile marker 60 and over corrected, which caused the car to re-enter the highway and rollover several times, Jones said.
When the car rolled over, Duval — who was not wearing a seatbelt — was thrown from the car.
