Judge rejects ‘stand your ground’ defense in Lancaster shooting death
A Lancaster man will have to face a murder charge in a 2013 killing after a judge rejected his claim that the shooting was justified under South Carolina’s so-called ‘stand your ground’ law, prosecutors said.
Allen Massey, 26, is accused of killing Demarcus Robinson. Last week, Massey and his lawyer argued that the charges should be dismissed because the shooting fell under state law that allows a person to defend himself.
Visiting Judge Craig Brown rejected the claim, according to 6th Circuit Solicitor Randy Newman.
It remains unclear when Massey, who has been in jail since his arrest, will stand trial.
