One car smashes into Taylor Street parking garage, as other drives away

The Columbia Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a person who left the scene of a traffic collision on a busy downtown road that left a car and a building seriously damaged.

The incident occurred at the Palmetto Health Baptist Hospital parking garage in the 1300 block of Taylor Street, according to the police, who reported it after 1 p.m.

A car crashed into the parking garage, because it swerved to avoid hitting another car that was exiting the parking garage, according to the police.

In an effort to avoid the exiting car, the driver of the first car crashed into the lower brick portion of the parking garage and fence, police said.

No injuries were reported, according to the police, who said the exiting car failed to yield to on-coming traffic and the driver did not stop.
