Report: 2-year-old dies in Midlands traffic collision
A two-vehicle collision on Monday resulted in the death of a 2-year-old, according to online reports.
At 6:15 p.m. Monday, the driver of a 2006 Chrysler disregarded a stop sign on Robinson Town Road as she drove through the intersection with Old Georgetown Road, and was struck in the driver’s side of the vehicle by a tractor trailer, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper David Jones.
The woman, who was wearing a seat belt, and a rear-seat passenger were injured in the collision and taken to an area hospital, Jones said.
The rear-seat passenger succumbed to injuries suffered in the collision and died at the hospital, according to Jones.
Kershaw County Coroner David West said the rear-seat passenger who died was a 2-year-old girl, according to wltx.com.
Another child, a 1-year-old, was also in the backseat of the car, but neither child was in the right type of car seat, the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office said, according to wistv.com. The 1-year-old is also hospitalized.
Dixie Deas was identified by the coroner’s office as the 2-year-old who died, according to both media outlets.
The driver of the tractor trailer was wearing a seat belt and wasn’t injured, Jones said.
The incident remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
