A Lowcountry man was arrested after yelling and cursing at a Columbia police officer who confronted him about sitting on the hood of a patrol car.

The incident happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday on the 600 block of Harden Street in Five Points, according to a police report.

An officer saw the Summerville man sitting on the hood of a patrol car, talking on a cell phone, the report states. The Summerville man became irate when the officer tried to talk to him, telling the cop “he needed to walk away and go down the street” and “to leave him alone.”

As a crowd formed to watch, the Summerville man told the officer “he needed to get out of his face and go away” and began cursing, the report states. He was charged with public disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor that carries a fine of up to $100 or 30 days in jail.
