Springdale police charge 2 in connection with 2-year-old’s death

Springdale police have charged a man and a woman with homicide by child abuse in connection with the death of a two-year-old.

Sabrina Haynes, 27, and Joshua Hopkins, 28, were arrested Friday and both are being held at the Lexington County Detention Center, according to Chief of Police Kevin Cornett.

Officers responded to a home in Springdale in November 2013 in reference to an unresponsive two-year-old child, Cornett said. Based on information and inconsistencies at the scene, authorities began an investigation into the cause of death.

Springdale police worked with the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) as well as the Lexington County Coroner’s Office throughout the investigation, Cornett said.
