Vandalism at Francis Marion University part of frat prank
Authorities say the spray painting of the numbers "1'' and "12" dozens of times across the Francis Marion University campus was part of a fraternity prank.
University officials said in a statement that the numbers represent the position in the alphabet of the Greek letters Alpha and Mu, which was the designation of the pledge class that committed the vandalism.
Authorities say both criminal charges and disciplinary action from the university are possible.
The numbers were spray painted early Monday morning on the library, student center, sidewalks and on a statue of the university's namesake, Revolutionary War hero Francis Marion.
The State Law Enforcement Division helped the university investigate the vandalism.
