Sumter County man wounded after shooting himself in the legs at a party

Sumter County sheriff's deputies responded to an accidental shooting Tuesday evening that left one man wounded in both legs after a gun was discharged at a party.

Braden Bunch, a sheriff's office spokesman, said 31-year-old Mark Floyd has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the incident.

Bunch said sheriff's deputies responded to to the scene located at a residence on Connector Road in Pinewood at 11 p.m.

When officers arrived, the victim had already been transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. Witnesses at the scene told investigators that a group had gathered at the home and were drinking together.

Bunch said the gun was in the possession of the victim and Floyd when the gun discharged hitting the victim in the legs.

Floyd has been transported to the Sumter - Lee Regional Detention Center where he is being held.
