Human remains found inside burned out car discovered by SC sheriff’s deputies
A human body was found in a burned car in South Carolina Friday, according to multiple reports.
A car destroyed by fire was discovered in Ninety Six by Greenwood County Sheriff’s deputies at 5 p.m., and human remains were discovered inside, according to coroner Sonny Cox, indexjournal.com reported.
The coroner said an autopsy was performed Sunday which confirmed the remains were human, wspa.com reported.
Sheriff Dennis Kelly said deputies surveyed the area but have not determined the person’s identity or cause of death, indexjournal.com reported.
“We’re waiting on some tests and DNA to come back. We don’t have a clue who it is at this time – no idea,” Kelly said to indexjournal.com. “We haven’t determined whether it was natural cause, foul play, accidental – we have no idea at this time.”
The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Greenwood County Coroner’s Office and the State Law Enforcement Division are investigating the death.
