Hidden camera found in SC Airbnb, host arrested on Voyeurism charge

It is one of the worst nightmares for every traveler.

You are outside of your comfort zone, relying on the decency of the people you are paying to provide you with suitable accommodations. And then you discover that trust has been betrayed.

That’s what a woman from Georgia is experiencing. The 26-year-old discovered a hidden camera in the South Carolina Airbnb where she was staying.

That discovery has led to the arrest of a Greenville man who rented the apartment via Airbnb.

Ceser Adam Mendez Fuentes, 35, was arrested Dec. 9 and has been charged with Voyeurism, according to the Greenville County Detention Center, where Mendez Fuentes is being held on a $5,000 bond.

The woman reported discovering the camera to the Greenville Police, according to greenvilleonline.com.

The police seized an alarm clock containing a hidden camera from the room, along with other electronics, wspa.com reported.

Airbnb requires hosts to disclose all surveillance devices in their listings, according to its website.

“We prohibit any surveillance devices in certain private spaces (such as bedrooms and bathrooms) regardless of whether they’ve been disclosed.”

“Airbnb takes privacy extremely seriously and there is absolutely no place in our community for this kind of illegal and outrageous behavior,” the company said in a statement, foxcarolina.com reported. “The individual involved has been permanently banned from our community and our guest has received our full support.”
