1,000-plus gallons of fuel was stolen from an SC Exxon gas station
How much fuel will fill your gas tank?
Ten gallons? 12? 16?
That’s nothing compared to what happened in Calhoun County earlier this week.
A suspect, or suspects, are accused of stealing more than 1,200 gallons of fuel from a St. Mathews gas station, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 8:30 p.m. Dec. 10, a white and orange box truck (possibly a U-Haul) parked in the rear of a Exxon gas station near the diesel pumps and the underground fuel tanks, the sheriff’s office said. The truck appeared to be occupied by two individuals.
The driver exited the truck and walked around looking at the cover to the tanks and then parked near them, according to the sheriff’s office. One person entered the gas station and was caught on video surveillance approaching the camera and turning it away from the underground diesel tanks.
Shortly after, the alarm for the underground tank alerted 1,289.2 gallons of diesel fuel was stolen, the sheriff’s office said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
