Midlands assistant fire chief arrested on domestic violence charge

A former assistant fire chief in the Midlands resigned after he was arrested Tuesday on domestic violence charges, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Clyde Thomas, 35, is charged with third degree domestic violence, according to public information officer Capt. Adam Myrick.

Thomas, a former Irmo assistant fire chief, was arrested at his Berl Mar Road residence the Columbia area of Lexington County after deputies determined he was the primary aggressor in a physical confrontation with his wife, Myrick said.

Thomas resigned as assistant chief of operations with the Irmo Fire District Tuesday night, according to Myrick.

Thomas was released from the Lexington County Detention Center Wednesday after a judge granted him a personal recognizance bond, Myrick said.
