Man charged with murder after deadly stabbing in Columbia
A man is charged with murder after the fatal stabbing of another man in Columbia’s Harbison area on Friday.
Columbia police arrested 43-year-old Matthew Scott Young on charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Young is accused of stabbing and killing a 28-year-old man during an argument Friday morning outside a home on Heritage Village Lane, off Broad River Road.
The victim, who was found outside by officers, was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.
The victim was identified Saturday as Abdias O. Pacius of Neptune, N.J., according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
Young and the victim did not know one another before the argument, police believe. They say the stabbing was an isolated incident motivated by the suspect’s anger toward the victim.
